Voluntary Product Information (VPI)

Because many customers ask for an EU-SDS (Safety Data Sheet), the FEPACommissionVI (in line with the ECHA helpdesk recommendation) agreed to provide information to customers as “Voluntary Product Information” (VPI) based on the format of an SDS. The VPI follows the structure of a safety data sheet according to the REACH Regulations, but in contrast to the SDS, it is not legally binding.

ECHA stands for European Chemical Agency, and REACH for Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals). Information on ECHA and REACH is available at:

https://echa.europa.eu/de/regulations/reach/understanding-reach

With the VPI, producers of abrasive products fulfil, on the one hand, their obligation to provide information according to Directive 98/24/EC, and on the other hand, they follow the customers’ demand to provide information in an SDS format.

The VPI covers vitrified and resin bonded grinding wheels, and electro-plated abrasive and dressing tools. Pastes and slurries still require an SDS.
