Non-involute gears

Cycloidal gearboxes can extract a large amount of power from small motors by reducing their rotational speed. These gearboxes are used, for example, in industrial robots and indexing tables of machine tools that have to perform powerful and swift motions, and must be able to stop abruptly at precise positions. For these types of applications, cycloidal gears are better suited than involute gears as cycloidal gears are practically free of backlash. Each cycloidal gearbox contains two identical cycloidal gears that can be precision ground on Reishauer machines in pairs and in one clamping.

Reishauer machines can be supplied with a software option to efficiently grind cycloidal gears. Furthermore, Reishauer designs and manufactures the necessary diamond dressing rolls to profile the grinding wheels.
